‘Little’ interest in historic classroom

There's been 'little bits” of interest from people who wish to occupy a 116-year-old classroom at Historic Village – but exactly how many potential renters there are is being kept under wraps.

Historic Village team leader Michael Thomson is keeping tight-lipped on the number of expressions of interest for the long-term lease of the Otumoetai Primary School classroom until submissions close on October 20.

The classroom on its way to Historic Village in July.

'We've had little bits [of interest] but we're not at the closing date yet, so until we get to that it's going to be hard to tell how much interest there is,” says Michael, who says it isn't yet appropriate to talk numbers.

'They [the numbers] are not huge but there is some interest.”

The historic classroom relocated from school grounds on Otumoetai Road to its current position at 17th Avenue on July 21.

It's a controversial move that upset former pupil Alys-Ingrid Wicksteed who, along with others who attended the school, want the building to stay on school grounds.

'I'd like to see people like us, who were the originals of the school, lease it and put it back into the Otumoetai area,” says Ingrid, who feels it's being lost in its current location.

Michael is encouraging people who are interested in leasing the building to consider putting a proposal forward before Monday, October 20.

All sounds wonderful but just does not cut it. This is why the historic places rubbish fails to provide an answer and just creates a night mare for owners of property.
