Stormwater works on Totara St

Motorists travelling along Totara Street are being advised to expect traffic delays for up to two months as work begins on a $14million stormwater upgrade to the Mount industrial area.

Totara Street works at the intersection of Maui Street.

From Thursday October 2, a new traffic layout will be implemented as major stormwater works, currently underway, move into a new phase, reports Tauranga City Council.

Works will take place near the intersection with Maui Street which will remain closed. Traffic lights at this intersection will also be turned off while the new road layout is in place.

Electronic signage warning of the works will be activated at Hewletts Road and Totara Street from Monday.

Two-way traffic flows are being maintained, but the carriageway will be narrowed using traffic cones and a speed limit restriction of 30km/h will be in place.

This is expected to cause delays and significant queues are also likely to form, particularly at peak traffic times, reports TCC.

Cyclists, pedestrians and public transport will be affected by the new temporary road layout.

The new traffic layout will be in place for up to two months and motorists are advised to consider alternative routes where possible.

The works, expected to be complete by early December, are part of a $14m stormwater project designed to give greater protection to the businesses in the Mount industrial area that has been underway since last year.

Commons Ave area residents. Matua residents, inner city residents,Maleame Ave business owners, no worries we will get to you soon, funny though as this area in the 5 x once in a hundred year floods we have had in the last 10 years have not had serious flooding issues, so whats the go???, is it P.O.T influenced or what?,is this the result of modelling club attendance?, and I have to ask why there is not a traffic flow plan drawn up, and released to the media so motorists can best avoid this "ruck".
