The Tauranga-based TrustPower TECT Rescue Helicopter was called to the scene just after 7.30pm on Saturday after two men, aged in their 20s, were seriously injured in the crash.

Rescue helicopter pilot Liam Brettkelly says both patients were stabilised by St John Ambulance paramedics at the scene, before being driven to Morgan Park in Waihi where the rescue helicopter landed.

'We transported a 28-year-old male with multiple injuries to Waikato Hospital, his condition was described as critical.”

Liam says the second man was flown to hospital by Auckland's Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
