Harman flies to beach bronze

Papamoa beach flyer Kodi Harman confirmed his status as one of the fastest men on sand anywhere on the planet with a bronze medal in the open men's beach sprint at the rescue 2014 interclub world championships in France overnight.

Kodi finished behind two Western Australians, Jackson Symonds (Sorrento) and Tom Nolan (North Cottesloe), in a classic final, as the open competitors took to the beach in the interclub championships.

Former world champion Holly Moczydlowski (Mount Maunganui) turned back the clock, reaching the women's final and finishing sixth, with Currumbin's Hayley Wyper taking the title.

Another Papamoa athlete, Natalie Peat, also finished sixth in a stacked surf race final, with powerful Gold Coast club Northcliffe providing the first four places.

Kristyl Smith led home clubmates Courtney Hancock, Harriet Brown and Eliza Smith.

The Papamoa youth team continued their amazing run, maintaining their overall lead after picking up two more gold medals on the first day of the pool competition.

Andrew Trembath clocked a slick 2.01.93 time to win the 200m obstacles swim, finishing nearly 2secs clear of Bradley Woodward (Shelly Beach), with German Max Tesch another second back.

Andrew then helped the Papamoa team - with Ben Johnston, Mason Bryant and Jake Hales - to victory in the 4x50m obstacles relay, beating Italian club Nuotatori Modenesi home by 1.83secs.

Maddi Kidd and Maia Bryant also helped the Papamoa cause, finishing eighth in the line-throw.

Gosh, aren't the three teams from Tauranga City doing SO WELL at thes competitions! Papamoa Beach, Omanu, Mount Maunganui. However you measure it... Per Capita, Per Sun-days, Per Km of Surf, Per Club... Our teams would HAVE to stack up as Best in the World! Congratulations. Time for a Civic Reception to be Planned. Who is behind this call??
