A missing person flyer has been released for one Mount Maunganui's distinguished personalities. You might not know him, but you couldn't miss him.

The man answers to the name ‘Reggie', except he doesn't answer at all. He has a very wooden personality, actually it's probably more fibreglass, and he was last seen on the Marine Parade waterfront.

Reggie is of scholarly and distinguished bearing, wearing a top hat, waist coat and John Lennon-type glasses, with a shock of grey wavy hair and a handlebar moustache.

Perhaps his most distinguishing feature is an overpowering 'whiff” of mozzarella cheese, capers, tomato paste and caramelised onions.

Yes, Reggie is a mannequin at the Mount Maunganui premises of The Pizza Library Company.

He is an iconic presence at an iconic eatery, and he's been missing for two weeks.

'I called the police when he went missing” says Pizza Library owner John Payne.

'Embarrassingly they turned up to investigate.”

Reggie was abducted, kidnapped, or probably just ‘nicked' from the Pizza Library's promotional caravan on Marine Parade.

It was a daring daylight heist 'and probably the work of a prankster”, says John.

But the joke is wearing as thin as a typical 14 inch New York style pizza crust. John just wants Reggie back. He has put a $200 bounty on the head of the offender.

Reggie is also a model employee. 'He doesn't answer back, is on duty all day and every day and doesn't complain. He doesn't even expect the minimum wage.

'I am not too distraught though,” says John. 'I am sure he will be returned. However I am growing a handlebar moustache in sympathy and that'll come off when he's found.”

Reggie leaves behind wife Hilda, a matronly, equally wooden, life-long companion, as well as a stable of other mannequins which have given the pizzeria its popular profile.

For regular clients at the Pizza Library, Hilda has taken on a real, or imagined, look of mild concern.
