Election 2014: Three MPs for Bay

The Bay of Plenty region can lay claim to two new MPs taking its total to three following tonight's 2014 Election results.

Incumbent Tauranga MP Simon Bridges is back for his third term, claiming 18,967 votes followed by NZ First candidate Clayton Mitchell's 5441.

Joining Simon in Parliament from the National Party is Todd Muller, replacing Tony Ryall in the Bay of Plenty seat.

With NZ First surpassing the five per cent threshold, reaching 11 seats, NZ First Tauranga candidate Clayton Mitchell is in too, ranking sixth on the party list.

Meanwhile, Tauranga's Labour candidate Rachel Jones, listed 25th on her party's list, has missed out on a seat with Labour reaching 32 seats in parliament - but only taking five list MPs with them.

SunLive spoke to the three elected MPs throughout the evening and what it means to make it into parliament and to represent the region. Watch the video to see what they had to say.

The biggest winners, The whole of New Zealand!

Yes we are all winners, with the German ex-con sent packing along with those that had their heads turned by the smell of an open wallet and the shaky coalition of the left, orchestrated by the remnants of the ALLIANCE (On display in more than one party) shaking their heads and wondering what went wrong. Will Winston First (And foremost) get the baubles of office once again, by being offered the post of speaker? One way to keep him quiet and the ONLY way to let him keep anyone honest and honorable.

Agree that we are all Winners

Never mind "How about this view" I hold on fast to the fact that Winnie ( I have known since he was the NAT PARTY member for Hunua-about 30 years ago) is now 69 and hopefully will hang up his "NO" SIGNS and this will be the last election for him- and the Winstone First Party will turn into the Winstone No More Party
