Clayton looks set for Parliament

Clayton Mitchell is looking set to secure a place in Parliament as a List MP for NZ First.

Current voting results have the party with 11 seats. It will definitely make it over the five per cent threshold, putting Clayton – listed sixth on the party list – in the Beehive.

Clayton is celebrating at the Devonport Towers tonight, after a 'tough day beginning with bacon and eggs” and the arrival of family from across the North Island.

He says it's been a night of mixed emotions.

'I feel like a surgeon, I'm jelly on the inside, but the outside is the part that matters. I feel really good. It's all mixed emotions, I'm excited, nervous, anxious, but all positive.”

With Simon Bridges just announcing he has won the Tauranga seat, Clayton praised Simon's political campaign, and says for him it has always been about the party vote.

'We're doing very, very well. It's not over yet, we won't be announcing anything until the final figured have come through.”

Don't forget your sandwiches and a good book, plenty of time coming up with nothing relevant to do.

'I feel like a surgeon..." A surgeon needs steady hands, I do hope yours become steady enough to write the city a cheque for the byelection we are now forced to endure, that would be a great gesture of sincerity.

as far as I am concerned you should have resigned from your Council position as soon as you started seeking higher honours, I would have loved to have seen your employment contract when you signed up and became a representative of this city, no worries you have caught the train direct to Wellington
