Rachel Jones is donning a new look for her election celebrations tonight, channelling the look she was given by Tauranga's mystery graffiti hoarding artist.

The Tauranga Labour candidate is joined by about 100 supporters at Greerton RSA tonight as they await the night's results.

But Rachel isn't putting a fun spin on what is a serious event – slapping on red lipstick, heavy eye make-up and metallic green nails to match her creative hoarding.

Rachel was the first candidate to fall subject to the mystery artist's work. She loved it so much she's taken home to keep.

"We just thought we would have a laugh on the last night, it's been a long campaign. We've been on the trail for 10 months so we thought we would end with a bit of fun and enjoy the night."

She's been keeping herself busy today, working with volunteers and encouraging people to get along and vote.

Rachel says to become Tauranga's MP would be "a real privilege".

"We have built such good relationships with Merivale and Greerton, those communities really suffering at the moment under this Government, so if I can help those people have their voice heard at a higher level."

Rachel currently has 1748 votes, placing her third behind NZ First and National.

"Anything can happen," she says. "It's going to be a really interesting night."
