Icy effort for Blue September

An icy afternoon was had by 12 Z Energy staff today as they endured buckets of ice in the name of charity.

Staff from Z petrol stations throughout the Bay came together at the company's Hewletts Road site to completed ice challenges to raise funds for the Prostate Cancer of Foundation of New Zealand.

By 3.30pm this afternoon staff had raised more than $4200 for the foundation under the banner of its annual Blue September appeal.

It is expected that figure will rise.

Each of the 12 Bay stations got on board, dressing the sites and themselves in blue and collecting donations on behalf of the foundation.

Behind the Z campaign is site leader Daphne Northcott who also undertook the challenge at 3.30pm, despite feeling under the weather.

Sick or not, she had plenty of motivation to drench herself in ice cold water to help the foundation.

'My father-in-law currently suffers from prostate cancer so this means a great deal to me.

'We put out what we were doing and these 11 guys raised their hands and said ‘Yep, we'll do it'.”

Daphne says she is proud the way Z staff get stuck into charity work and the way they happily go about getting involved in their communities.

Working with the Foundation has also been a great experience and Daphne speaks highly of them.

'They've been great to work with, they ask if I have everything I need, have supplied us with balloons, info flyers and posters, and support us when we need it.”

Today is the last day of Z's fundraising efforts, though some stations will continue their efforts throughout the weekend.

'I just want to thank all our customers who donated and supported the foundation, and to all our staff who have got on board,” says Daphne.
