New leads in Luana Williams case

Police investigating the disappearance of Luana Williams from her Gate Pa home 28 years ago are following new leads.

The 25-year-old, known to her family as Laverne, was last seen at her Munro Road home, now the Mega Mitre 10 carpark, on June 5, 1986.

Luana Williams disappeared from her Gate Pa home in 1986. She was declared legally dead in 1998.

Luana was reported missing by her then partner Steve Prole after he returned home about 4am from a night drinking with a friend at the Greerton Pub, to find her gone.

She was declared legally dead in 1998, but the case remains unsolved and a body has never been found.

Last year police confirmed they were following new leads and offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to an arrest.

It's the second time a reward has been offered. Back in 1994, police offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to the former Otumoetai College student's whereabouts.

Now, Detective Senior Sergeant Lindsay Pilbrow says new pieces of information are still coming forward.

'We are speaking with a number of people from back in the day that we believe have information in relation to Luana's disappearance.

'The case is still very much active and we are still speaking with a number of people in the Tauranga area, and out of Tauranga district.”

Lindsay says it's an ongoing investigating.

'We are able to go back and speak with people we have previously spoken to or new sources.”

Lindsay is keen to speak with anyone who may have information, no matter how big or small.

'We encourage people to contact us and we will follow that through.”

People with information can either contact their local police station and information will be passed onto Lindsay or alternatively, information can be left anonymously via the Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 line.
