Robbery accused denies charges

Tyson Taki, the man accused of the knife point robberies of The Aussie Butcher and Mag's, Cards and Lotto on Cameron Road, is electing trial by jury on two charges of aggravated robbery.

Appearing in Tauranga District Court today, the 24-year-old pleaded guilty to minor charges of wilful damage and trespass on which judge Paul Geoghan sentenced Taki to 21 days in jail.

Tyson Taki is accused of the aggravated robberies of two Tauranga stores in August.

Taki pleaded not guilty to the aggravated robbery charges and was remanded in custody to next appearance on November 11.

Judge Geoghan denied SunLive's application to take Taki's picture in court to ensure Taki has a fair trial.

Taki was ordered to pay $1700 reparation to police to pay for damage he's done to police cells.

Taki is accused of robbing Mag's, Cards and Lotto on Cameron Road on August 22 armed with a knife.

A man wearing a dark hoodie, with the hood pulled over his head, entered the lotto shop and demanded cash from the owner.

The owner complied, and the robber left the shop to be last seen running towards the Tauranga Hospital carpark.

Taki was arrested on Wednesday, August 27.

He is also accused of the earlier aggravated robbery of The Aussie Butcher on August 7.

An employee was working at the butcher about 7am when a man entered the shop through an open back door.

The man grabbed a 20cm butcher's knife and threatened to stab the employee if he didn't hand over cash and open the safe.

Taki will remain in custody and is due back in court on Novemver 11 for a case review.
