It all comes down to one match for a diminutive Western Bay of Plenty rugby side if they are to lift the Invitational Under 45kg trophy.

This Sunday in Te Aroha the Western Bay of Plenty Under 45kg win run out against Hamilton Black and Hamilton Gold in a double-header on the final day of the tournament – formerly known as the Goldfields' Tournament.

A Western Bay of Plenty player wards off Thames Valley players at Sunday's match.

Currently unbeaten the WBOP side continued this form edging past their Thames Valley counterparts 17-12 at Greerton Marist Rugby Club on Sunday.

The win also sees the side retain the Steve Robinson Memorial Trophy for another season.

WBOP Under 45kg manager Gill Grimmett says so far the side has beaten Te Awamutu 19-0 and King Country 43-0 along with Sunday's victory.

Gill says this weekend's matches essentially come down to the final match against Hamilton Gold, also unbeaten.

'They won it [the Invitational Under 45kg title] in 2012 and that's the only time a Western Bay side has won it.

'We have another training on Wednesday to get them back on track and then on to Sunday in Te Aroha.”

To qualify for the representative side players must be Year 7 or 8, and weigh less than 45kg.
