Reports of a firearm being pointed at a man in Matua have come to no avail with police unable to locate the alleged offender.

Police were alerted to the firearm incident near the block of shops on Tilby Drive about 2pm on Sunday.

Police understand the alleged incident occured near the Tilby Drive shops.

Tauranga Police Senior Sergeant Glenn Saunders says police received a call from a man who gave a 'vague” description of another man with 'some sort of firearm”, but information was limited.

He says police investigated the incident thoroughly but were unable to find anyone.

'We did search lots of areas but found no person in possession of a firearm.”
