Details surrounding the crash are largely unknown at this stage as the Tauranga's serious crash unit are currently unavailable for comment.

A neighbour, who has asked not to be named, says he did not witness the crash but had certainly heard it.

'There was this huge bang and we ran outside. We thought something had blown up in the house, like a gas barbeque or something,” the neighbour says.

'We couldn't figure out what happened and then we just heard someone yelling out.”

The neighbour says it looked like the vehicle went straight through the intersection, gone down a bank and crashed through the property's garage wall and exited out the other side.

He had not seen crash but says the car had been witnessed in the area by other neighbours.

'There's quite a long straight before it gets to that house, which is on a bend. He's just failed to take that bend and gone straight into the house.”

Police, ambulance and fire crews attend the scene shortly afterwards. No-one appeared injured.

It is not known if the driver was the only occupant in the vehicle.

A spokesperson for the Tauranga Fire Brigade confirms that the fire service attended the scene following the crash.

'There were bits of timber and iron hanging down so we cleaned that up and then left police with it,” he says.
