You must vote

RE: R Stewart ‘A system promoting inability' (The Weekend Sun, September 5). R Stewart obviously does not realise how destructive he is in recommending that people don't vote 'if they are fed up or have doubt” about the system. He has no concept of what he is rejecting.

Does he believe that people would somehow self organise in some magical way? Does he not realise that countries that have a weak or non-existent government are likely to be dominated by armed gangs with no security or justice?

People who travel tell us we are very lucky to have the system that we have. Yes, there are problems, but they are not fixed by destroying the system, they are fixed by working to improve it. The first step in doing that is to ensure that the best people get elected – so that means voting.
