Tauranga's Mr Whippy believes he will be at a loss of about $4500 when the AIMS Games winds up, after losing his contract with the annual event.
Mr Whippy, aka Ross Killoh, says the bottom has fallen out of sales since Fonterra elbowed him from the games' venues.
Mr Whippy Tauranga franchise owners Ann Wade-French and Ross Killoh.
Last year he turned over $5500 peddling soft freeze to the children at the annual games. He then gave the organisers a cut: believed to be $750.
But this year Mr Whippy, after being dropped as a provider to the AIMS Games, has taken $400 selling ice-creams around booked-out motels.
'We might hit $1000 by the time the games end on Friday, 80 per cent down on last year,” says Ross.
'But I am just sad that the kids have missed out.”
Mr Whippy's daughter Freya is 'gutted” watching her parents struggling for business on the street.
'However they won't let it get the better of them,” she says.
But Tauranga Chamber of Commerce chief executive David Burnett is appealing for 'respect and understanding”.
'In the end it was a business decision made by AIMS and Mr Whippy has to respect that, even though it's hard to take."
The corporate has poured sponsorship dollars into the event according, says David, and all parties simply need to respect the decisions made.

AIMS is a huge event that pulls in massive amounts of money to the Bay each year. How dare people criticize Vicki Semple or others who run this fantastic event because of a moaning ice cream seller. Its business, get over it.

When you go into any business you must expect that you will gain some opportunities and lose others. Every time that one door closes, another will promptly be able to be pried open. See this as a chance to make another inventive move. Otherwise if you cannot stand the heat then get out of the kitchen.

Why is the author of this article more concerned with the financial returns of a vendor of junk food than the fact 7,500 young athletes are getting a fantastic opportunity which is also great for our community. The word pathetic springs to mind when reading this article.

I thought the Chamber of Commerce was supposed to represent local businesses.Judging by Mr Barnetts comment he is out of touch with local enterprise I suggest he relooks at his comment.
