Road clear after SH29 crash

UPDATED 10.20AM: A silver hatchback has been towed from the scene of a crash on State Highway 29 this morning with significant damage after it collided with a Toll truck.

A section of a passing lane on SH29, near the Ruahihi Power Station, was blocked after the car and truck crashed but is now clear.


There is significant damage to the front of the car.

Emergency services were called to the incident about 9.25am.

A reporter at the scene says it appears the car and Toll truck were travelling uphill towards McLaren Falls when the silver hatchback collided with the back of the truck.

There is significant damage to the front of the car, which was removed from the road and loaded onto a tow truck.

The reporter says nobody was injured in the accident and police at the scene say alcohol is not being considered a factor.

Traffic is flowing in both directions.

A section of a passing lane on State Highway 29 near the Ruahihi Power Station is blocked after a car and truck collided this morning.

Emergency services are attending the crash after reports a car had crashed into the back of a truck heading towards Hamilton, about 9.25am.

Acting Western Bay of Plenty Road Policing Manager Sergeant Mike Owen says nobody is injured but it appears the car has a considerable amount of damage.

'I think one lane in the passing lane is blocked but traffic is flowing in both directions. It must be going up the passing lane on the Kaimai [just past the power station].”

He says with today's wet weather motorists need to remember to drive to the conditions.

'We have had a fair bit of downpour and extra care needs to be taken on the roads.”
