Wet week ahead in Coromandel

Rain is forecast for this week in the Coromandel as a northerly flow, followed by a low pressure system, crosses the country.

A cooler southwest flow established over the country last week will ease today as a large high over the Tasman Sea moves across New Zealand.

The MetService is predicting rain for the Coromandel region this week.

'High pressure rules the beginning of the week so settled weather can be expected across much of the country,” says meteorologist Peter Little

Cloudy periods and a few showers are forecast for Whitianga and the wider Coromandel area today, with cloudy periods and northeast breezes tomorrow.

Rain is expected to become more dominate in the region later in the week.

As the high moves to the east of New Zealand on Wednesday, a northerly flow becomes established.

'The northerly will bring moisture in the form of cloud and drizzle to northern and western places from mid-week,” says Peter.

Towards the end of the week, a trough of low pressure approaches from the west. This is expected to bring heavy rain to parts of the West Coast on Friday.

Rain is also expected to arrive over many other parts of the country on Friday, though only patchy falls are expected in the south and east of both islands.
