Foundation launch for RDA

Long-standing charity organisation Tauranga Riding for Disabled is set to benefit from financial sustainability with the launch of its own foundation.

Guests and supporters from the community will celebrate the launch of the Tauranga RDA Foundation on Tuesday, with a special event from 6pm at Farmer Auto Village.

Trustees Tom Roper, Bill Chapman, Peter Farmer, Janine Hellyer and Tony Mills established the foundation to create financial sustainability for the organisation.

It will focus on the establishment of a robust investment portfolio to provide a return capable of contributing significantly towards RDA's long-term financial security.

Foundation chairman Tom Roper says Tauranga RDA is an impressive organisation which provides therapy to more than 100 disabled and at-risk individuals each week – more than 4000 sessions a year.

'A group of us want to get behind this team to make sure that in years to come this will all still be available for those in our community who need it.”

Guests will enjoy refreshments courtesy of Farmer Motor Group and hear words from one of the Tauranga RDA riders and his family.

Tauranga RDA president Iris Dodkins is delighted to have the trustees' support.

'We're very excited about the launch event.

"With the establishment of the Tauranga RDA Foundation the team at Tauranga RDA can focus on the great work they're doing knowing the organisation will continue to be there to help many more families into the distant future.”

Tauranga RDA Equestrian Therapy Centre in Welcome Bay provides therapeutic horse related activities for children and adults with physical, mental, cognitive, social or behavioural needs.

This includes horse riding, horsemanship and vocational skills, with clients ranging in age from three to 65. The treatments help develop and encourage growth, confidence, independence and self-esteem.
