Candidates discuss environment

Environmental politics will come to the forefront tonight as Bay of Plenty political candidates discuss environmental policies at a public meeting.

The event, jointly organised by Forest & Bird Tauranga and Envirohub Bay of Plenty, is open to anyone from 7pm-9pm at the Wesley Centre on 13th Ave.


Pollution on the Kaituna River.

Each candidate will speak for four minutes stating their party's key environmental message.

This will be followed by a question and answer session, covering topics such as climate change, transport, freshwater policies, conservation and reducing waste.

Supper will be served at the end of the meeting, when people can talk to the candidates.

Ian McLean (Greens)

Clayton Mitchell (NZ First)

Annette Sykes (Internet-Mana)

Brendan Horan (Independent Coalition)

James Maxwell (United Future)

That some of the candidates, although having nothing to say, will not be allowed to speak by the rabble that is likely to attend this sort of meeting? I'm talking about you, watermelons and separatists.

I was there representing the ACT party too (though at one stage I wished I wasn't after a dismal faux pas). Not sure why Sunlive didn't have me on their list. Was an open minded and respectful audience actually, as they all have been in Tauranga. Rusty was there at the back, not sure why he was not on the panel with us. Isn't he a soil scientist who could have made a useful contribution?
