Screaming for chippies

Have you got a good attitude? Are you willing to listen and learn?

Then you could have a job tomorrow…a job with security through to at least 2020.

Certified Building Association of NZ chief executive Grant Florence.

The Bay of Plenty is screaming out for building apprentices. The situation is not yet as critical as in Auckland and Christchurch – but it's getting worse.

And if a young person has the pre-requisite of a good work ethic, then there are plenty of local builders who would snap them up in a second.

Tauranga's Certified Building Association of NZ chief executive Grant Florence says they need apprentices, and they need them fast.

The shortage, he says, was created by a long and substantial building downturn. But the industry has picked up quickly and builders were caught out.

Grant says forecasts for the industry look good, and although the number of apprenticeships is the highest for many years, they need more.

Are you interested? Are you willing to learn? Give yourself a break and help the Bay of Plenty grow.
