Attack accused continuing trial

A Tauranga man accused of an unprovoked attack during the last Christmas holidays is continuing on the trial path.

Damien Charlie Anderson, 29, is charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, assault and assault on a female in relation to an attack on two men and a woman on Harrow Place at Arataki on December 28, 2013.

A hearing has been set for October for opposition on a joinder application.

One of the men suffered facial fractures as a result of the attack.

In court on Wednesday, Tony Rickard-Simms, who had been Anderson's defence lawyer, applied to withdraw from the case due to a conflict.

'The Crown is seeking to have the matter joined with another, and this causes a conflict for me,” says Tony.

Anderson's case has now been taken over by Peter Attwood, who plans on opposing the joinder application at a hearing in court on October 23 at 10am.

Anderson was remanded on bail until his next appearance.
