Winter cricket at Bay Oval

The White Ferns couldn't have asked for a better day at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui for their warm-up match against some of the rising cricket talent in the Bay of Plenty.

Today's match is a lead in to the team's West Indies tour which takes centre stage on the White Ferns agenda in September.

The New Zealand women's cricket side will play four ODI and three T20 matches, starting with the first one day international on September 13.

Today's match at the Mount is a vital part of the White Ferns' Caribbean tour preparations – the Bay of Plenty Invitation team, providing the opposition at the Bay Oval encounter, will be looking to show early season form to impress the Bay of Plenty selection panels.

The Bay Invitation side consists of a number of the most promising senior secondary players from last year, with a couple of players who earned their Bay senior means team debuts last season.

The 50 over match started at 11am.
