DHB evicts candidates’ forum

A last minute change in venue of a domestic violence forum in Tauranga has NZ Independent Coalition Party leader Brendan Horan appalled.

The political candidates' forum was due to be held at the Bay of Plenty District Health Board premises on Cameron Road but was shifted to the Hillier Centre at Bayfair last minute on Tuesday.

Brendan Horan was one of a number of political party representatives to speak at the forum.

BOPDHB governance and quality general manager Gail Bingham says the relocation of the morning meeting was necessary under the BOPDHB guidelines for the 2014 Election Period: State Servants, Political parties and Elections issued by the State Services Commission.

'In this document, it states that in the pre-election period, which we are now in, agency premises must not be used to display material or to carry out any activities that would reasonably be regarded as party political in nature.”

Brendan is outraged by the venue cancellation that meant 30 minutes had to be cut from proceedings.

'It just shows how disconnected the Bay of Plenty District Health Board is to the real issues within our society.

'The number one issue in our society is family violence, as an example we need look no further than the little child that was murdered last week.”

Despite the venue change, agency representatives and political party candidates were able to make it to the Hiller Centre for the forum about family violence.

To me it shows their appalling disconnect the DHB have with the community.

'The fact that we have nurses and health professionals striking later in the month is the classic example of the type of bullying that the DHB does.”

In response to Brendan's claims of bullying, Gail says the DHB has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to that sort of behaviour.

'All such acts are dealt with in a consistent manner and perpetrators are held accountable for their behaviour.”

to complain if any meeting was held (and he was not present) in contradiction of election guidelines. I am not sure how complying with rules and a change of venue (still allowing the meeting to proceed) shows any disconnection by the DHB to real issues within our society.

Get Over it Brendon

lets focus on why was the meeting allowed on DHB property in the first place??? You can't close the barn door after the horse has bolted. So who within the DHB stuffed up? And what is bbeing done to make sure this stuff up is not repeated?

How about a forum on how to prevent the risk of offspring financially abusing their elders!
