Long lunch doubles in diners

Members of the 200 Club gathered at ASB Arena today for the Legacy Long Lunch – a celebration of support for the Breast Cancer Support Service.

The club, which began last year, has more than doubled in size, going from 63 members in 2013 to 153 members in 2014.

Breast Cancer Support Service Trust Chairman Michelle Whitmore, service manager Lea Lehndorf and guest speaker Jane Hunter at the lunch.

Breast Cancer Support Tauranga Trust service manager Lea Lehndorf says today's lunch is a chance for members to get together and enjoy time with friends.

'The 200 club is a club for the Breast Cancer Support Service - you get a certificate, a unique number and the benefit of the Long Lunch.

'They have come together today to support the community and they have all paid their membership which funds the Breast Cancer Support Service.”

Anyone can join the club by paying a $200 membership, which goes towards supporting women diagnosed with breast cancer.

'This is only our second year. We did a good job last year and we hope to do a good job this year. We're looking forward to having something going for the next 20 years.”

Breast Cancer Support Service works like a 'buddy system” introducing newly diagnosed women with local survivors.

'We have free counselling, free resources services, and we also have a helping hand service where we give everyone diagnosed $200 in their first 18 months to spend on anything that will give them a pick-me-up.

'The 200 Club is another way to support us if you don't like dressing up in pink and coming out during our walks in October.”

The lunch ran from 1pm until 4pm.
