Oropi crash driver charged

The driver of the 4WD involved in a head-on crash on Oropi Road has been charged with careless driving.

Sergeant Nigel Ramsden says the male driver of the 4WD crossed the centreline crashing into a silver stationwagon travelling south towards Rotorua about 7am.

'The drivers were lucky to walk away with minor injuries, especially the driver of the station wagon who benefited from having a modern vehicle.”

Both vehicles suffered major damage in the crash just south of Warner Road.

Both drivers suffered minor injuries but only one was taken to Tauranga Hospital and has since been discharged.

The crash delayed traffic for a couple of hours as one lane was blocked due to debris and the 4WD blocking the southbound lane.
