Furry feline flower thief

A Bellevue cat owner is stumped at the takings of her resident pet who keeps returning home with colourful flowers from what she assumes are neighbouring gardens.

The six-month-old black haired feline named Hero has brought home four plastic flowers in the last week and his owner Darni Tonge has no idea where he keeps getting them from.

Hero has been sneaking flowers from someone's garden and bringing them home.

'What he's been doing is sitting at the door with the flower in his mouth meowing. These things are huge.

'We can't figure out where he is stealing them from. The first time he did it he brought two home, and then stopped for a while, then he brought two more home.”

Darni says the flowers are not her taste, but Hero seems to love them.

'They're like plastic pond lilies and are really colourful. The last one he brought home was on Monday.” Hero has never done anything like this before, and despite efforts to find the owner, Darni is unsure where these colourful lilies are coming from.

'He's just a really special cat. He came up with us from Christchurch after the February earthquake.

'He's been all over New Zealand and he is a real sweetie and I love him to bits.”

Darni says the flowers are being stored at her home in case the owner wants to get them back.
