Assault victim in hospital

A 23-year-old man has been charged with two offences in relation to an alleged home invasion which occurred at a Napier address on July 26.

The victim has head injuries and remains in hospital in a critical condition.

The accused been charged with assaulting a person with a blunt instrument and committing burglary with a weapon.

In an unrelated assault, a 37-year-old man who was allegedly attacked at his home address on the same day is in hospital in a stable condition.

A scene examination of the address is continuing and is expected to be completed today.

Enquiries are on-going, and the men in both cases have yet to be formally interviewed due to their injuries.

No further updates can be given at this time.
