MPs take on Ryall's style

National MPs are wearing clashing shirts and ties to celebrate Tony Ryall's last speech in Parliament today.

The Bay of Plenty MP, Health Minister and State Owned Enterprises Minister announced his retirement from politics in February.

Coromandel MP Scott Simpson and Tauranga MP Simon Bridges sporting their tie and shirt combination.

Tony has been in Parliament for 24 years, starting as an MP for East Cape in 1990 at the age of 26.

He worked as a young back-bencher, an opposition spokesman and a minister of six portfolios.

For Tony's last speech today, Tauranga MP Simon Bridges has organised for MPs to wear clashing shirts and ties.

'As a neighbouring MP who has had a lot of help from Tony I wanted to celebrate his significant contribution today but in a fun way.

'A lot of National MPs, I think more than half of the male members of the National Party, are wearing clashing shirts and ties in true Tony Ryall style.”

Simon thinks the shirt and tie combination he is wearing today would be something Tony might actually wear.

'I could see him wearing it to a corporate interview. I don't know how Tony will react to the ties but I am looking forward to his reaction.

'Rumour has it he is in a plain white shirt and a very standard tie in reaction to his notoriety over the years for his whacky sartorial style.”

for Mr Bridges to actually have his own style, he cannot keep hanging on to John Keys coattails any longer, election year Simon, its time you started talking to your constituents, and possibly showing them you have some fortitude to voice your opinion on matters, not continually borrowing the total "party line".

The shirts and ties reinforce the path of National - clashing with experts in all fields even when patently wrong.

Good to see our local MPs showing their "colours" in support of a very hard working Member of Parliament for Bay of Plenty, Tony Ryall. The two previous posts have nothing to do with what was a fun thing to do (they're allowed that aren't they?)
