Teen suffers suspected spinal injury

A 16-year-old girl is in Rotorua Hospital with suspected spinal injuries after a mountain biking accident.

The Rotorua-based BayTrust Rescue Helicopter was called to fly the injured riders to hospital after the accident in the Whaka Forest.

St John Paramedics were called to treat the girl at the scene but Chief pilot and base manager Barry Vincent says that due to the nature of the terrain, it was decided to airlift the patient out of the area.

'She was flown to Rotorua Hospital in a comfortable condition.”
