$5k bill in chemist smash

Metro Pharmacy is facing a $5000 repair bill after a car mounted the curb smashing into its Bethlehem storefront today.

The driver of a red Mazda 6 mistakenly hit the accelerator instead of the brake causing her vehicle to crash into the glass frontage about 11am.

A car has smashed into the front window at Metro Pharmacy.

The woman driver was uninjured but in shock following the crash.

Metro Pharmacy owner Gordon Ritson was alerted to the smash by his employees yelling out ‘Gordon'.

'I rushed out to find that the woman had mounted the curb and put one headlight into the glass.

'The whole window buckled and all the glass collapsed as well.

'The driver was quite stunned, I don't think she knew what happened, but she did recover her thoughts and said she thought she had put her foot on the brake but actually hit the accelerator.”

Gordon says the car gave the window quite a bash.

'It's one of those annoying things, as it's not just a case of replacing the glass but the whole aluminium frame has to be replaced too. The management office next door is not able to close their door as it's buckled too."

Tania Leveridge was at the neighbouring hairdresser Just Cuts when she heard the glass of the storefront smash.

'I came out and saw this and then ran back inside.”

Tania too says the woman was in shock.

A parked car also suffered damage in the crash, which left glass scattered in front of the store.

'But other than that, it's business as usual. The builders are here cleaning it up and we will probably cover it with some wood tonight and hopefully get it sorted later in the week," says Gordon.

Gordon estimates it will cost about $5000 to $6000 to repair the damage. He is currently in talks with builders and the insurance company.

Good grief, this seems to happen way to often. A similar thing happened in New World carpark a couple of Sundays ago and the driver mounted the footpath and took out a rubbish tin.

Ditto, keeps happening!!?

If you can't tell the difference between the accelerator and brake you shouldn't be driving, what happens if there is a young family walking by at the wrong time?

No people injured

Not a single mention of the fact that had there been someone in front of that car when it went up the curb - who knows what would have happened! I walk past there up to four times a day so very happy it wasn't me and my son ...
