Teen shot in home invasion

A 17-year-old was shot in the arm after a home invasion in Thames overnight.

Police and St John Paramedics were called a rest home and hospital on Parawai Road in Thames about 8.20pm after the victims of the home invasion ran to the hospital for help.

Police say the teenage girl received moderate gunshot wounds to her arm, while a 50-year-old man suffered chest pains.

The pair were taken to Thames Hospital for treatment following the incident.

'Enquiries indicate that three men wearing masked and armed with a sawn off shotgun invaded a property and the shotgun went off during an altercation, injuring the teenager,” says a statement from police.

'The intruders fled the address and the occupants ran to the nearby hospital for help.”

Police say the house where the home invasion took place has been secured and was guarded overnight.

A detailed scene examination will take place this morning.
