Alleged robbery under investigation

Police are investigating what they say is an aggravated robbery at a food market in Christchurch overnight.

Police were called to Mairehau Food Studio in Briggs Road about 8pm on Saturday following an alleged aggravated robbery.

A male with a distinctive hooded top, is believed to have entered the dairy and pointed a pistol at the attendant before demanding money and cigarettes.

Police say the store attendant acted correctly and did as she was asked before the man allegedly left with cash and tobacco.

The male, aged between 25 and 30 years old, is described as dark skinned, skinny, and about 170cm (5ft 7) tall.

"He had a black scarf over his face and a dark hooded top with large bright coloured letters on the front," says police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Chris Power on 3637400 or Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
