SH2 turns white near Te Puke

Traffic is flowing in the Paengaroa area despite reports of white clouds of dust covering State Highway 2 near Te Puke from a vehicle losing a load of magnesium oxide this afternoon.

Tauranga Police Senior Sergeant Shannon Clifford says they have had no reports of crashes in the area.

SH2 near Te Puke turns white from a dumped load of magnesium oxide this afternoon.

Shannon says there was a driving complaint about a motorist concerned about a truck's load that was on a lean.

'The motorist feared it may shift as the truck went around the corner. Apart from that, we have no reports of anything else that could impede traffic.”

A caller to SunLive says an Izusu four-wheel-drive with a twin-axle trailer dumped part of a load of magnesium oxide on SH2 near Te Puke about 2pm.

'It was causing clouds of white dust over the road and traffic slowed down to pass through it,” says Ross Brown.

Shannon says police haven't received any reports on the incident.
