Politically correct claptrap has to go

Rogers Rabbits (The Weekend Sun, July 4) quite rightly took the wind out of Susan Devoy's race relations rant on language nuances.

And as RR says: 'PC nonsense outfits have little it seems to do and being overpaid at the expense of the long-suffering taxpayer”.

The general view is these PC people usually contribute nothing to society other than bring anguish and discontent to the long-suffering majority.

Ms Devoy's foray into the language field follows her blurb about the fatuous Tauranga bicultural signs proposal (May 2014), another ill-considered disharmonious statement.
Then in media reports (July 2014), we have her spiel about tracing her whakapapa and learning the Maori language.

Frankly, who cares and it is about time the PC propaganda machine was reined in and she got to grips with some meaningful work because nothing of any value has surfaced this year, except these plugs for Maori language/culture initiatives.

This stuff is not promoting conciliation, rather it is fuelling racial disharmony and discontent and Kiwi taxpayers shouldn't be funding this sort of proactive, biased, one-sided commentary.

Ms Devoy's TV One statement on compulsory Maori in schools to the effect: 'we need to take whatever steps that are necessary to ensure our language survives” is appalling.

Perhaps the best outcome would be to resign and go work for the special interests being promoted.

R Paterson, Matapihi.

Mr Paterson, you will now be labeled a racist for the simple fact of having stated the obvious.

The promoted racialy biased viewpoint expressed in Patersons letter,is clearly intended to divide, our predominantly harmonious society. Conservative opposition to opinion and meaningful change,to what has been total dominance by his kind is sad but predictable. Change is desirable, inevitable and unstoppable. Whats more, it is supported by all reasonable and fairminded people. Robin Bell.

'is supported by all reasonable and fair minded people” As I have said before, to see which camp is supported the most have a referendum on all issues related to TOW, which appears to be the base document for all the derision. It's ambiguity has meant experts (which I am not one) from both viewpoints have been arguing it's meaning for decades now. Language being the latest battleground. The recently held 'constitution discussion” probably highlighted what Kiwi's really think. As an aside and not supporting Yogi, but the word racist is being thrown around with reckless abandon lately. If you don't support Maori in any way or you express a different viewpoint to Maori, you are labelled racist! Dr Whyte's recent speech on LEGAL equality is the prime example. Harmony = equality, you cannot foist a culture on people who are unwilling to adopt it. They have to want it

Treaties are not decided by referendum, they are a legally binding contract. Of course a referendum would possibly deliver the result you so desire. In the process you too would be foisting the very culture you represent, on those who do not want it. The price is too high. The Constitutional review, found no desire for any change to the status quo, nothing more nothing less. When you "read into" things, that which was unintended, you too suffer from ambiguity. Yogi bore is the one throwing around the word racist, guilty conscience or something more sinister? Robin Bell.

PERFECT NZ FOR PART MAORI

Posted on 07-08-2014 21:00 | By Jeromy Murkin

The future according to Pita Sharples and the aim for part Maori. ""permanent dependence"". 1. An Upper Treaty Senate would remain the goal of the constitutional review. 2. The Whanau Ora slush fund would be greatly expanded to include social development, education, and employment. 3. Nominated Maori statutory boards for all local authorities around the country. 4. The signing of the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous People will lead to perpetual race-based claims requiring a Minister for the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Negotiations. 5. Maori language would become compulsory. 6. Prisons would become the main training scheme for Maori where access is gained by committing crime. considering the Sharples Maori autonomy vision means extra bureaucracy and more welfare, the outcome would bring more state dependence when self-reliance is what is wanted, oh and part maori will be the language spoken by all of "us".
