Patrol halts arson attempt

Quick actions by the Greerton Community Patrol resulted in the capture of two youths who patrol members say set fire to a bin behind the Greerton shops last night.

The patrol members quickly contacted police and stopped the fire from spreading from a metal caged waste cardboard bin.

Police set up a cordon leading to the youths' apprehension. They are now being dealt with by youth services.

Tauranga police urge Greerton businesses to reduce their rubbish and secure the bins.

'There's been quite a few of these kind of fires,” says Tauranga Police senior sergeant Shannon Clifford.

But more importantly.... where are their parents? Where do the parents think their kids are at night? Parents need to be ALLOWED to control their kids, and then should actually do it!
