Food truck serving up a treat

Tauranga locals are getting a taste of the best New Zealand's Vogels recipes as the national road trip stops in town today.

Based on The Strand from 7am-3pm the Vogel's Toast of NZ Café is serving up some of the best Vogel's masterpieces as judged by supermodel Rachel Hunter.

Ayla Brammhall and Brent Robinson are downtown The Strand to create some tasty Vogels' masterpieces.

On offer is Rachel's fav - The Big Hug – a pear and camembert bake, along with the top 12 creations – pea and avocado, breakfast sandwich, quiches and even bread ice cream sandwich.

Kiwi icon Rachel Hunter was at the Vogel's Toast of NZ Café last week in Auckland to taste the innovative top 12 masterpieces.

She selected Thames women Barby Barclay's Vogel's masterpiece to be named ‘Rachel's Fave'.

The supermodel, who worked with Vogel's in 1992 and appeared in a television advertisement which asked Kiwis travelling to Los Angeles to bring her Vogel's, flew in to New Zealand to visit the café on its final day in Auckland.

The Vogel's Toast of NZ Café tours New Zealand throughout July to showcase the best Vogel's masterpieces that Kiwis have to offer.

'I am a big Vogel's fan so I am thrilled to be able to come home for the launch of the Vogel's Toast of NZ Café Tour.

'I can't get Vogel's that readily in LA, but when I do find it available I stock up – it really is one of those tastes of home. The masterpiece recipes that Kiwis have come up with are incredible and absolutely mouth-watering.”

'My favourite topping for Vogel's on the go is the trusted Marmite and avocado – it's great, but nothing quite like anything on the menu at the Toast of NZ Café!”

After calling for entries from throughout New Zealand, judges made the call on the top 40 innovative recipes before they were whittled down by public vote to just 12. These top 12 now make up the menu at the café as it tours much of New Zealand this month.

The recipes are divided into four categories – breakfast, lunch, dessert and ‘to share' – and the team at Vogel's is thrilled by the creative and delectable recipes that have made the cut.

Vogel's marketing manager Jo Sutherland says it is fantastic to have Rachel Hunter onboard.

'We are thrilled Rachel was able to be at the launch of the Vogel's Toast of NZ Café and to have her decide which of our top 12 recipes is bestowed with the title of ‘Rachel's Fave'. Rachel Hunter is a Kiwi icon; she was in 1992 when she called for Kiwis travelling to L.A to bring her some Vogel's, and she still is now.”
