Winner wakes to $1.5m

A Bay of Plenty woman had a sleepless Saturday after waking to find she had won $1.5million on Lotto.

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, won the First Division with a ticket purchased online at MyLotto.

As she slept on Saturday night she woke with a sudden 'gut feeling” to check her ticket.

'I watched the red circles go around all six of my numbers and quickly realised it was going to be big – I just didn't realise how big,” the winner explained.

'To start with I thought I'd won $1500, so I couldn't believe it when I realised I'd actually won $1.5 million.

'I didn't sleep at all Saturday night – it's not every weekend you become a millionaire overnight,” she laughed.

The winner has already put considerable thought into how she wants to spend the money.

'This is money I didn't have last week and now I can do so much to help my family,” she explains.

'I want to do a little bit of renovation to the family home, but mostly I want to make sure my family is looked after. Material things are all good and lovely but in the end it's my family that's important.”

'The win won't change who I am. I'll still work at my job and will continue to play Lotto.

'You know, I always joke with my family and say ‘I'm going to win this weekend'. And this time it came true,” she laughed.

The winning ticket was purchased on mylotto.co.nz. The Lotto First Division jackpot of $3 million was shared with a player who purchased their ticket from Manners Mags and Lotto in Wellington.

Since MyLotto was introduced in 2008, over $84 million in prizes has been distributed to over 4 million winners.

The largest single prize won on MyLotto was a $15.7 million Lotto Powerball prize won in January last year.
