Arrest made in double homicide

Counties Manukau Detectives have arrested a 25-year-old man in relation to the double homicide at Takanini Ezy Cash Store yesterday afternoon.

The alleged offender was taken into custody without incident outside the Huntly Police Station about midnight on Saturday.

He will appear in the Manukau District Court on Monday, July 21, charged with two murders.

Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to this incident.

Police have located the man and woman seen leaving the store prior to police arrival and confirm that the man arrested is believed to be this man. The woman is currently assisting police with enquiries.

"Whilst we are pleased to have made an early arrest, the work for investigators is just beginning and the investigation will continue for some weeks," says Detective Inspector Dave Lynch.

Police are grateful for assistance received from members of the public thus far in the investigation which includes offers of CCTV footage.

Police are seeking further assistance from the public in relation to sightings of a Silver 2003 Mitsubishi Colt Hatchback.

This vehicle is believed to have travelled from Takanini out to the Avondale region, possibly stopping at the Avondale Racecourse and then to Papakura and then Huntly where it was located by police.

Whilst in Auckland, the car was seen with a large 'For Sale' sticker on the rear window which had been removed by the time it reached Huntly, say police. Police are also looking to locate a brown-coloured 'Dickies' hooded top which may have been discarded in the environs of the Avondale Racecourse.

The top is likely to have visible blood upon it and should not be touched, say police.
