His grandfather, great uncle and mother's cousin have all played for the All Whites – but six-year-old soccer-mad Matthew Hooper wants to kick it with the Wellington Phoenix FC.

The Welcome Bay boy hopes to win a chance to meet his soccer heroes at the Wellington English Premier League games this weekend by proving he's the ultimate fan as part of a Wellington International Airport competition.

The competition's winner will get a double pass to the Wellington EPL games and the opportunity to oversee the coin toss for the Sydney FC versus Westham United match.

They will also meet the players and also receive a signed T-shirt.

Playing soccer since age two, and having recently watched many 2014 FIFA World Cup matches, Matthew's keen to meet some of the nation's top players.

'He's the biggest soccer fan I know,” says mother Michelle.

But it's Michelle's father Vaughan Campbell, uncle Clive Campbell and cousin Jeff Campbell who are the professionals.

Vaughn played for the Under 19 All Whites in 1979, while Jeff played for them from 2000-2007.

Clive pulled on the white shirt in 1977 to 1982 and was part of the squad that qualified for the 1982 World Cup in Spain.

Matthew's love for the game grew after watching the Wellington Phoenix at a live pre-season match at ASB Baypark in 2011.

'It was cold and wet that day, but he watched the whole match,” says Michelle.

'We knew he liked soccer, but it wasn't until that game that I realised he loved it and ever since then he's wanted to play for the Wellington Phoenix.

'He's told me he will play for the All Whites as well, but he wants to play for the Wellington Phoenix more.”

To prove Matthew's the team's biggest supporter, father Richard entered his son in the competition last week by posting a photograph of his son to Facebook for people to share and vote.

Voting closes at midday today and so far Matthew has more than 380 votes.

If he wins, Michelle says the family will purchase an extra ticket so Richard and two-year-old son Nathaniel can go too.

Matthew's favourite Phoenix player is Tyler Boyd.
