According to court documents on March 23, Davies and his former girlfriend were at her Bellevue home when Davies became agitated after the woman received a series of text messages from a man. It later turned out to be the girlfriend's brother.

Agitated by the texts, Davies punched the victim in the face before walking away.

'She followed you and yelled ‘how dare you come into my house and hit me'”, Judge Stephanie Edwards told the court during sentencing.

Davies returned, pushing the woman into the bedroom before punching her five times in the face.

She received a fractured nose and severe bruising to both eyes.

Davies was also charged with wilful damage following a separate incident in Invercargill last year, when the 23-year-old was arrested by police.

Defence lawyer Glenn Dixon said Davies 'flippantly” made a comment to a police officer which the officer took as threat to cause him 'serious harm”.

Davies was arrested and while in police custody caused damage to his cell and a security camera totalling $188.60.

On the lead charge of injuring with intent to injure Judge Edwards sentenced Davies to 12 months intensive supervision, 120 hours community and ordered him to pay $188.60 in costs.

A protection order is also in place for the former girlfriend.

Where are the real sentences? .... The law is becoming (or has become) a toothless tiger? What a farce... the guy obviously need some serious looking at, not just a slap on the wrist.... I hope the lady is ok....

Disgusting!

Judge Stephanie Edwards is surely in the wrong job! Nothing other than a lengthy custodial sentence should have been given here and not a slap on the wrist supervision order.
