Two critical after Napier crash

Two women are in a critical condition in hospital after a crash on one of Napier's main arterial routes last night.

The crash occurred on Prebensen Drive near Tamatea at 6.30pm.

Police say it appears the 24-year-old driver of a car heading south towards Taradale may have crossed the centre line and collided with an oncoming car driven by a 55-year-old woman.

Both women are from Napier and are currently in Hawke's Bay Hospital's intensive care unit in critical condition with serious head injuries.

There were no passengers in either car.

The police serious crash unit is investigating the crash.

It is a good reminder that just because you are on your side of the road and doing the right thing, it pays to keep an eye on who is coming towards you, there is always a possibility that they might drift onto your side, one always has to expect the unexpected and be prepared to take avoiding action. Same goes for right of way at intersections etc, just because you have right of way, doesn't mean the guy approaching from you right has his act together or even knows the rules (or isn't on the phone or otherwise distracted) Again, all the best to the 2 ladies, but how about we all try to learn from others misfortune.....
