Kingi and brothers Tuhukia and Shaun were arrested by police in Mount Maunganui on May 27 following the alleged robbery at the Matua Dairy.

At the time of the incident, Detective Sergeant Alan Kingsbury said two men with hooded tops entered the store about 6.15pm and demanded a store attendant open the cash register.

When the request was denied, the alleged offenders demanded tobacco before fleeing the store with about $50 in goods including cigarettes, phone cards and confectionary.

Two men were seen running from the store by a member of the public, who followed them and watched as they got into a vehicle.

Police were contacted and tracked down the vehicle in Mount Maunganui about 15minutes after the robbery.

A storeworker hit with a metal bar during the incident sustained minor injuries.
