TEL traffic changes on Monday

Traffic changes on State Highway 2 between Mangatawa and Domain Rd will take place overnight this coming Monday, April 28, says the NZ Transport Agency.

Traffic will be switched across to the new eastbound lanes between Mangatawa and Domain Rd as part of ongoing construction of the Tauranga Eastern Link project.

Traffic changes on State Highway 2 between Mangatawa and Domain Rdbegin Monday, as part of TEL work.

As part of the changes, Kairua Rd will become a permanent left-in and left-out only intersection.

Kairua Rd traffic will no longer be able to make right-hand turns from SH2 into Kairua Rd, or from Kairua Rd onto SH2.

The work was originally expected to be undertaken before Easter, but was delayed by bad weather.

Once traffic is moved onto the eastbound lanes, work to construct the new westbound lanes, heading from the Domain Rd intersection towards Mangatawa, can begin.

Motorists are advised to drive with care and to expect delays while traffic management is in place.

The four-lane Tauranga Eastern Link will run from Te Maunga near ASB Baypark Stadium to the existing junction of State Highway 2 and State Highway 33, the Rotorua and Whakatane highways, near Paengaroa.

It will be made up of 17km of new road and an upgrade of six kilometres of existing highway. The new highway is expected to open to traffic in late 2015.

what would you know about building a highway?a lot of good people have put in a lot of hours and hard work to make this job happen, who are you to judge?we can't change the weather, and since road construction is very weather dependent delays are sometimes unavoidable so keep your negativity to yourself and enjoy the new road when it is open, more than likely 6 months ahead of the original schedule!!!
