UPDATED 2.44PM: A man suffered moderate injuries after being hit by a car while trying to catch the bus on Fraser Street this afternoon.

Police and St John Paramedics were called to the scene, outside Fraser Cove, just after 1pm after police say he ran across the road to try and catch the bus.

Emergency services are responding to the call outside the shopping centre.

Senior Constable Steve Murray says the bus was picking up passengers on the opposite side of the road when the man was struck by a car travelling south.

'He banged on the bus to indicate to the driver he wanted to get on.”

The car sustained damage to its windscreen after it's believed the man smashed into it.

Steve says police are working to establish if the man was also hit by the bus after being struck by the car.

The pedestrian was taken to Tauranga Hospital by St John Paramedics.

Steve says the woman driving the vehicle which hit the man is shaken but not injured. It is unknown if any passengers were in the car.

The bus driver was also shocked from seeing what happened.

Steve is uncertain if there were any passengers on the bus, but says it is highly likely.

Police are still investigating the accident.

fraser crazy

For the last 4 months I'm 7.53 on Fraser St (minutes make all the difference)from Chadwick and it can be nuts at the round about. I work in Brook St Fraser Cove so I don't even bother trying to go home along Fraser St because to turn right at 4.30 is kinda like winning lotto! I am dreading the 29th when Cameron Rd is closed, (why? aren't there two lanes) I'll have to get up super early to make it to work. Fraser St is way busier now that people prefer it to Cameron Rd because of the extra set of traffic lights on 18th. More people living Oripi way and the chad/fraser/oripi rd needs addressing.

crossing roads

When I was at school they taught us to cross road behind bus. So why do so many people always walk in front of bus to cross the road. cars coming up from behind bus cannot see people thru obstacles. Two lanes on fraser not the answer as that only encourages motorists to go faster. A cross walk where the bus stops are is needed it slows down traffic and makes pedestrians crossing road safer.
