Fanta fizzzing about Ute debut

Young gun Jack 'Fanta' Kofoed is all set to join the Holden ranks this coming weekend in the UDC V8 Utes, having secured a drive for the category's biggest weekend at the ITM 500 Supercar event.

Kofoed - a Kiwi and Gold Coast resident – is a huge motorsport enthusiast, and says he has been missing his motorsport since racing a Ford Falcon for Mark Petch in the V8 Challenge Cup series that supported the BNT V8 SuperTourers.

"It's been a long six months,” explained the youngster, who will celebrate his 20th birthday on the Saturday of the ITM 500.

'No doubt about it, living with Andre Heimgartner and Shae Davies and seeing them jet off to drive their new rigs has sucked. At the Clipsal jealousy levels were at a high watching them both from pit lane.

'Being back at Pukekoke and competing in front of my family and friends is going to be great. Pukekohe is by far my favourite track to drive.

"I don't think anywhere compares, the high speed corners mixed in with massive curbs are just sensational. Then add the V8 Supercar event atmosphere and the new challenge of the UDC V8 Utes. I really cannot wait."

Kofoed will run in the new UDC V8 Ute category Holden run by Stoneman Racetech - the first time he has not run a car himself.

"This time the full focus is on myself and the job at hand.

"No doubt it's going to be tough and for sure, I want to be at the front but the majority of the field have some serious experience in these machines, so I'm not under any illusion that I'll be on the pace right from the get go.

"Finding the speed as soon as possible is definitely the goal though.”

Like all of the UDC V8 Ute drivers, Kofoed will carry a nickname on the car and in his case it will pay homage to the popular driver's bright red hair.

"My boss is the genius behind it. I wasn't a fan but Andre who isn't the most original guy out decided he did and hasn't dropped it all year.

"There's a bit of humour in it and I'm sure it will put smiles on people's faces."

He will run with support from Mobil 1, The Coffee Guy, CivilTrain, Racer Industries and Go Fast Energy.

Kofoed is one of three Aussie-born or based drivers competing at the ITM 500 Supercar round as the UDC V8 Ute series continues to attract strong interest from across the Tasman.

New Zealand series leader Kris 'Killa' Walton is in action, along with fellow Aussie V8 Ute regular Jeremy 'Lost It' Gray.
