What’s On Today: Scavenger hunt

It's time to enjoy the last of the long weekend and Tauranga City has some exciting events for those wanting to get out and relish the drier conditions of 2014's Easter break.

Families wanting a fun morning out are encouraged to head to Yatton Park where Kidz Need Dadz is hosting an Easter Monday egg hunt.

Leila and Cohyn Ewart will be among the many children enjoying the Kidz Need Dadz.

In a twist on the traditional easter egg treasure hunt, the organisation says each family will be given a set of clues to find hidden items they can then exchange for chocolate eggs.

'Yatton Park is a dog park – and we don't want the dogs eating chocolate, or the children returning with the wrong item,” says organiser Lianne Mather.

The event is a fundraiser for Kidz Need Dadz men's refuge, where fathers and children can seek affordable shelter or emergency accommodation. The organisation, with close to 100 members, also offers support groups and life coaching for dads.

All families are welcome at the event which starts at 11am, with a sausage sizzle and raffle to follow.

Rotary Book Sale – Last Day

Bargain hunters will be heading to the last day of the annual Tauranga Rotary Club Book Sale today.

The 27th annual event at Mount Action Centre has been a flurry of activity over the long weekend with crowds trawling the shelves for the best in second hand books, puzzles, DVDs and more.

By 9am on Saturday there was a 150metre queue out the door waiting to explore, says book sale organiser and club president Ann Pritchard.

Today is the book sale's final day – so make sure you don't miss out.

On at the Mount Action Centre from 9am – 4.30pm.

At the gallery

The Bob Kerr exhibition currently on at the Tauranga Art Gallery is a powerful exhibition of stories from New Zealand's involvement in World War 1.

The Wellington-based artist recreates key events, participants and places from the war, specifically the treatment of Archibald Baxter (father of James K. Baxter) experienced as a conscientious objector.

He begins with The Farm, at Brighton, south of Dunedin (where Baxter was arrested) and then to The Waitemata, the ship which took him (and other objectors) to the war front.

On at Tauranga Art Gallery – corner of Wharf and Willow Street – from 10am daily.
