Firefighter's 50 years in service

Born to be a firefighter, Tauranga assistant area manager Graeme Easton has been recognised for his 50-year career in the New Zealand Fire Service.

A celebration was held at Classic Flyers on Saturday to mark Graeme's 50 years in the NZ Fire Service.

At the event, Graeme's family presented him with a helmet painted of three generations of firefighters in his family, including Graeme, his father and his son.

Beginning as a volunteer firefighter in Levin, Graeme joined the fire service one month after leaving college in 1964 before starting a full-time career in Palmerston North in December 1968.

During his 50-year career, Graeme has served all across the North Island, including Palmerston North, Dunedin, Wellington, Taupo, Hamilton and Tauranga.
