Murupara dog attack: owners named

The Murupara couple accused of owning the four dogs that mauled a seven-year-old Japanese girl can now be named.

Charlotte Boyt, 31, and Clive Boyt, 36, appeared in Rotorua District Court today charged under Section 58 of the Dog Control Act with owning a dog which causes serious injury.

Sakurako Uehara was attacked by four Staffordshire bull terrier cross dogs when she visited the couple's property with family on March 3.

She received more than 100 bites to her body and was taken to hospital in serious condition.

More than a month later the seven-year-old is still listed in a serious but stable condition in Middlemore Hospital.

All four dogs were put down following the attack.

The couple are yet to enter a plea on the charge and have been remanded at large [with no bail conditions] until May 7.
