Road works for SH29 Kaimais

Motorists travelling along State Highway 29 via the Kaimai Range are being advised the road is reduced to two lanes at the base on the Hamilton side.

New Zealand Transport Agency says during the Easter and Anzac holiday period there is a speed restriction of 50 km/h in place as works continue. The reduction to two lanes is just up from the SH29 and SH28, Rapurapu Road, intersection.

NZTA regional performance manager Karen Boyt says temporary traffic management will be in place as workers are still in the process of completing road resurfacing works which have been delayed due to the heavy rain recently.

'We ask drivers to take care and to drive to the posted temporary speed limit of 50km/h. Also as there are only two lanes open from the base of the Kaimai Range to just before the summit, drivers travelling in both directions need to be aware that passing along this section is not possible,” says Karen.

'We ask that drivers please be patient during this part of their journeys. We apologise for the inconvenience, and thank drivers for their patience until we are able to complete this work which is likely to be after the Easter/Anzac break.”

Roadworks

Who was the person who gave the OK to start these roadworks at the end of summer (after a long dry one at that) and also with bad weather forecast. Both sides of the Kaimais have these going on and at the moment it is easier to walk across a muddy estuary than to drive thru these. Next time can the NZTA and the contractor (Downers) show a little bit more intelligence before undertaking something like this so close to 2 long weekends Because with the weather like it is these works are going to be virtually impassable by the end of the weekend
